Background of the study
Legal institutions demand precise and reliable language interpretation, as even minor errors can have serious judicial consequences. In Hausa legal settings, interpreters bridge communication gaps between legal professionals and clients. Professional development initiatives—such as workshops, certification courses, and continuous training—are implemented to enhance interpreter proficiency, particularly in complex legal terminology and cultural nuances (Abdullahi, 2023). These programs are intended to update interpreters on the latest legal practices and improve their accuracy in high-pressure environments. Despite these efforts, disparities in training quality and gaps in ongoing professional development persist, leading to inconsistent interpreter performance. This study evaluates the impact of professional development on the quality of Hausa interpreting in legal institutions by analyzing performance metrics, surveying legal practitioners, and reviewing training programs. The objective is to determine how enhanced professional development can lead to more reliable and accurate interpreting, ultimately improving legal outcomes and justice delivery.
Statement of the problem
In legal institutions, inadequate professional development has resulted in Hausa interpreting errors that compromise the accuracy of legal communication (Abdullahi, 2023).
